[ARCHIVED] Railroad accident at Prospect Crossing Thursday Morning

The Village of Clarendon Hills regrets to report that a 34 year old Oak Brook female pedestrian was struck and killed slightly before 8 a.m. this morning by a train at the Prospect Street crossing in Clarendon Hills.

Video record shows that the pedestrian attempted to cross the tracks while the gates were down and was struck by an eastbound train.  Service on the BNSF line was stopped for a short period and then began running on a delayed schedule due to the on-going investigation.  Regular service has resumed as of this writing.

The Village will release an additional statement if further relevant information becomes available.  We ask that everyone keep the family of the deceased in their thoughts and keep in mind the importance of pedestrian safety at rail crossings.

UPDATE:  The striking train was an eastbound train that passed while an additional train was parked for boarding.  Our public safety personnel were immediately on the scene, as the police were already in the area conducting train safety enforcement for Railroad Safety Week.
