[ARCHIVED] DuPage Protect My Town

Project My Town

Protect My Town is aimed at activating Illinois residents to voice their opposition to proposed state cuts to the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) dollars. As part of this effort, DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference (DMMC) has created a website – www.ProtectMyTown.us – along with two educational videos explaining what the loss of this critical revenue means for our residents.

The new website and social media opportunities enable Illinoisans to directly engage their state legislators and Governor Rauner. The website explains why the state should resist attempts to use LGDF dollars to fill state budget gaps, which shifts the tax burden on to local communities and taxpayers.

The process is incredibly simple. After logging on to www.ProtectMyTown.us, it only takes three easy steps to directly contact your legislators and the Governor: 1) Fill out your information; 2) Review your letter; and 3) Hit the Send Letter button to complete the form and send the letter to lawmakers.

Residents can also forward and share the site through Facebook and Twitter, encouraging their friends, family and followers to join the movement as well. In addition, we are working with our fellow Councils of Government to reach as many residents as possible.

An exciting new addition this year is the continuation of an educational video series. The latest video showcases local mayors discussing how cutting the Local Government Distributive Fund negatively effects their towns.
