[ARCHIVED] Halloween

We have received several calls suggesting that trick-or treating be changed to a later date, due to the less than favorable weather forecast. Although the forecast is disappointing, it is the Village’s position that trick-or-treating will not be moved to an alternate date. The recommended trick-or-treating hours will remain 3pm-7pm, October 31st.

There are several reasons behind our position.

  • It is a tradition to trick-or-treat on the day of Halloween. Residents tend to be home with outside lights on and drivers will expect children out and about. This may not be the case on an alternate day, causing a safety risk.
  • It is very likely people may not get notice of a date change and trick-or-treat anyway. The Village cannot prohibit this.
  • The Village does not have an ordinance in place designed to regulate Halloween trick-or-treating dates and times. The Village merely recommends appropriate times to trick-or-treat on the traditional day, which is when most residents expect children to show up at their door.

If parents make the decision to take their children out trick-or-treating today, please stress pedestrian safety. Look for a safe path for you and your children to walk and cross streets at crosswalks after looking both ways. Please wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Call 911 for any emergencies.
