Dear Clarendon Hills Residents and Business Owners,
In these trying times I wanted to reach out to you with an update and a message. For several months we have all struggled with the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. Just recently many of our businesses were able to re-open, including restaurants with outdoor seating. I was thrilled to see all the people out at restaurants like Talley’s, Country House and Zaza’s enjoying themselves and supporting our businesses.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 crisis, though still a powerful issue, has been supplanted by the protests and civil disorder that followed the tragic event in Minneapolis last week. I am sure we all agree that justice needs to be served, and we need to ensure social justice in our communities. At the same time, we all must acknowledge that the looting occurring all over the country is also a tragedy.
Looting and vandalism has occurred in the West suburbs, including Oak Brook, Naperville, and Lombard. Individuals involved in these activities have been observed in parts of Clarendon Hills. We have no direct threats, but there is no reason to believe we are immune from these violent actions. We ask that all residents and businesses practice caution, especially after dark. The Police Department is monitoring the situation and is providing extra staffing. If you do see anything, we urge that you call 9-1-1 to make a report.
Thank you for your time and stay safe.
President Len Austin
