The Clarendon Hills Pedestrian Crossing, east of Prospect Avenue, will be closed from 7 pm, Saturday 9/19/2020, to 9 am, Sunday 9/20/2020, and from 4 pm, Sunday 9/20/2020, to 4 am, Monday 9/21/2020.
BNSF is in final planning for our 2020 Tie Gang project. 2 years ago, BNSF modernized the schedule for Chicago Division Tie Gangs. Previously these tie replacements would have been scheduled over 3 to 6 weeks and now we plan to complete work in 4 nights. This year the plan is to change out 11,000 ties on main track 3 utilizing roughly 40 pieces of specialized rail equipment and more than 175 workers.
Night work will be taking place between 9/17 and 9/20 along the entire BNSF line. During this time, all trains passing the work zones will be required to sound their whistles. The Tie Gang will utilize large lighting racks for illuminating the work zone and their equipment can also be loud.
BNSF is also planning several nightly crossing closures. Closing the crossings protects BNSF employees and the general public during work like this. Additionally, the BNSF signal crossing team has several safety checks required for this equipment.
